This time some bad news, the invasive Brittle Naiad (Najas minor) has also been reported from Sokokis Lake in Limerick, Maine.

Brittle Naiads are currently easily found due to their size and are already getting very fragile and brittle as they come to the end of the season. The plants will soon disintegrate and the fragments will carry the tiny seeds to new locations.

This discovery was sadly not unexpected since Lake Arrowhead has had a known infestation for a few years now. Now is a good time to look for plants in your lake too!

See here for how to tell this invasive from the other native Naiads.
