Stay +100' away from a diver down flag!

What does this flag mean ?

Essentially it means stay at least 100' away!

This is a "diver down"  flag. It means there is a diver or snorkeler in the water. All power boaters need to stay at least 100ft away.

Today, in Lake Arrowhead, a power boat pulling a water skier repeatedly ignored my dive flag until I swore at them! If you can hear me swearing at you over the noise of your boat, you are way too close!

People are working in the water looking for and removing invasive plants. Not only does reckless boating endanger the people working, boat wake also bashes us about and makes it hard to do our work.

Let me be clear, make sure you understand the boating rules, keep your distance, control your wake. After today, I will no longer hesitate to call the warden for any craft that makes our work unsafe.

Note that the LACC suction harvesters also have diver down flags, stay away from them too.

It should be common sense to stay away from red flags or people in the water.

Remember also, that no high speed travel is allowed, by state law, within 200' of the shoreline. It is called the Safety Zone and applies to all waters. Within the 200' safety zone only headway speed is allowed - the minimum speed at which your craft can be steered. This applies to all power craft. In other words we should not even need a diver down flag in Lake Arrowhead.

To understand how long 200' (67 yards) is - a football field is 160' by 360'

If you think there is not enough room on Lake Arrowhead to abide by the rules, then you are on the wrong lake. This is not Sebago.
