This liverwort fragment, Riccia fluitans, was found floating in my cove on Lake Arrowhead. It can form new colonies from a single antler bud or branch becoming detached.
It is widely distributed across North America, growing in ponds and slow moving streams. Though it looks a lot like a moss, it is not. I love the little forked tips - reminds me of chameleon feet/toes.
